Casalini Libri - Together with Libraries and Publishers through Changes and Innovations for the Future of Culture

Sustainability

For the Casalini group, sustainability is an ongoing process: listening, measuring, improving, investing in long-term solutions, and making responsible choices in support of knowledge, people, and the environment. Our work connects publishers, libraries, and readers around the world; this role brings with it a commitment to reducing our environmental impact, strengthening cultural communities and making access to knowledge more inclusive.

Environmental Sustainability

At Casalini Libri, we have adopted a structured approach with demonstrable results in reducing emissions, managing waste responsibly and using sustainable materials.

Consumption and Emissions

In 2025, Casalini Libri invested in measuring its emissions and developing a decarbonization plan, reducing its greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 73% compared to 2024. This result was achieved thanks to:

  • Transition to 100% renewable energy at the Casalini Libri headquarters in Caldine, installing a self-generating solar power system on the roof
  • Replacement of the gas boiler with an electric heating system
  • Use of fully electric and hybrid company vehicles
  • Incentives for remote working and the use of public transport for employees
  • Optimizing energy consumption (LED lights, motion sensors, thermostat programming)
  • Purchasing goods and services from local artisans, businesses, and professionals, thus also supporting the local communities in Fiesole

Future Objectives

The decarbonization plan includes further actions through 2028, including:

  • Transition to 100% renewable energy at the historic Torrossa headquarters (2027)
  • Replacement of another company vehicle with an electric one (2028)
  • Achievement of ISO 14001 certification (in progress)

Waste Management

We are committed to minimizing the waste produced by our operations, always prioritizing reuse and recycling and promoting awareness of these practices among employees and collaborators:

  • Recycling in all offices
  • Reuse of materials where possible
  • Elimination of single-use plastics (water dispensers, elimination of plastic cups/tableware, paper towels)
  • Monitoring and measuring the volume of waste produced

Materials and Packaging

Sustainable choices adopted:

  • Use of recycled cardboard boxes
  • 100% recycled tissue paper for packaging
  • Biodegradable or paper tape
  • Internal paper packaging, elimination of polystyrene
  • Optimization of box volume relative to contents
  • Annual environmental audits
  • Inclusion of instructions for the reuse and responsible recycling of packaging materials in boxes
